“I was really unhappy and knew that I needed something new, so I came to StepUp.”
When Steve arrived for his first day of NextUp, StepUp Wilmington’s 5-week career workshop, he was struggling with finding the confidence it would take to find long-term employment that provided stability. During those five weeks, Steve was able to bond with individuals in similar situations as his and depend on StepUp Wilmington’s staff to lead him in the right direction.
“During NextUp and Step2, Ashanti and Bennett were very encouraging and were always one phone call away,” Steve shared.
After successfully completing NextUp, Steve was hired at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, a StepUp Wilmington partner, where he still works today on the frontlines during COVID-19.
“Working at a hospital during COVID-19 has been pretty interesting. They are very strict with safety so I feel protected and am just taking it one day at a time, helping wherever I can,” said Steve. “Even though I’m doing something small, I’m glad to be doing my part.”
Thank you to Steve and all frontline workers who continue to show up and serve our community!
