Volunteer

Give your time and treasure

There are many ways to support StepUp Wilmington and those we serve. Whether it be teaching one of our jobs week workshops, serving a meal at Step 2 or helping in our office we need you! We are incredibly grateful for every volunteer whose generosity furthers our mission. The areas below are where you can have the greatest impact.


Administration

• Office Support (Weekly 2-3 hour commitment)
Greet participants and others interested in StepUp Wilmington, answer the telephone, input data and assist with other office, and program-related projects.


Job Program (Meets M-F 8:30am – 3:30pm)

• Interviewers (Bi-weekly commitment 1-2 hours)
Assist individuals with interview prep & mock interviews. Ideal volunteers should have a background in human resources or management with experience in hiring/interview procedures.
• Resume Writer (Bi-weekly commitment 1-2 hours)
Bi-weekly commitment to assist in writing participant resumes. Requires some resume writing experience, strong writing skills, attention to detail and good knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Job Workshop Instructor (Bi-weekly commitment 1-2 hours)
Lead or assist a job readiness training workshop. Must possess strong presentation skills and subject matter experience. Content provided.
• Job Seeker Support (2-3 hour weekly commitment).
Provide support and guidance to participants. Assist with job search activities to help participants meet career goals. Can provide rides to job interviews.


Step 2 (Meets Wednesday evenings 6-8pm)

• Step 2 Instructor
Monthly or quarterly commitment to facilitate a 1-hour session on financial literacy, budgeting, goal-setting, career advancement, conflict management or personal development. Must possess strong presentation skills and experience with subject matter. Content provided.
• Step 2 Co-partner (12 Week Commitment)
Meet weekly with a Life Skills Program participant to support with budgeting and goal-setting. (Co-partners are asked to attend 4 training sessions and observe program. Minimum age for this role is 25 years old.)
• Step 2 Support Volunteer
Check in participants and guests, provide support for participants and co-partners and assist with setting-up, serving and cleaning up meals.
• Childcare Volunteers
Work with children age 5-12 on homework, special projects and other activities related to life skills. Or provide supervision and activities for children from new born to age four. Positive reinforcement training available. Minimum age for this role is 16 years old.
• Provide Meals
Provide a nutritious meal for participants, kids and co-partners on Wednesday evening(s).
